It should come as no surprise, then, that Hublot has partnered with some of the biggest, boldest brands and celebrities in the world: Jay-Z, Usain Bolt, and Ferrari spring instantly to mind. Beyonce famously gave husband Jay-Z a Hublot Big Bang for his 43rd birthday. Studded with over 1,000 diamonds. That cost a cool $5 million. He was reportedly 'excited' about it.
There's a lot of white and silver going on here. Bracelet? Hublot 's signature structured white rubber. The dial? Matte white. Case? Satin-finished stainless steel. And let's not forget that polished stainless steel fixed bezel. It isn't called the Hublot Big Bang Diamonds for nothing. It's inlaid with 114, 1.18 carat diamonds. The six H-shaped screws offset the dazzle of the bezel somewhat and toughen it up a little.
Hublot are all about style but they're also an established, respected luxury watchmaker. When the first ever Big Bang premiered at Basel in 2005 , Hublot's orders tripled in 12 months. The Big Bang also won the Design Prize at the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix. In the same year, it scooped Best Sports Watch in the Japanese Watch of the Year ceremony. All of which proves my earlier point: this is a genre-defying timepiece that embodies Hublot's 'Art of Fusion' philosophy.
Hublot like to make an impact. You don't name a watch 'Big Bang' unless you want to create an impression. But they didn't let function follow form here. They added rhodium-plated luminescent hands and Arabic numerals so you can actually tell the time in dim and dark conditions. You'll notice the chronograph hand is blood red. This is a gents watch, after all. The sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective treatment. It's more than just a pretty face.
This is a watch worn by those who want to see and be seen. Naturally, it has a display back because you really need to see what's going on behind the scenes. Speaking of which, Hublot Big Bang Diamonds (ref 342.SE.230.RW114) is powered by the HUB 1145 automatic movement and has hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph, and date, plus a 42-hour power reserve. The chronograph counters are at 9 and 6 o'clock. The seconds hand is at 3 o'clock. There's a date window between 4 and 5 o'clock. The reset to zero pushpiece for the chronograph is at 4 o'clock. The start and end pushpiece is at 2 o'clock.
On a final note, it's water resistant to 100 m. So if you accidentally drop it into the water at a Vegas pool party it's no big. The only problem you might run into is several other partygoers being tempted to jump in and 'rescue' it for you. I know I would.
